  1. Hi Cameron!

I see that you have chosen a kiwi bird to 'adopt' from the Otorohanga bird sanctuary. I think that you've made a great choice. They are a very special bird that is endemic (native) to New Zealand and to nowhere else. Unfortunately, because they can not fly, they are easy prey for larger animals and many kiwi birds have been killed over the past few decades. Apparently we now have only about 65 000 kiwi birds left in the entire country. If the numbers keep falling we will end up without any kiwi birds. That would be pretty sad 'eh?

I hope that you're able to give Steven a nice safe place to live and delicious food to eat. What do you plan to feed, Steven? Do you happen to know what kind of food kiwi birds like to eat? I'd love to know...

Keep up the great work with your blogging, Cameron! It's great to see that you've been so active this holiday.

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  3. Hi Cameron,

I'm reading your blog from my home in Canada. We don't have Kiwi birds here - I find it fascinating that New Zealand's national bird is a flightless bird. Isn't it interesting that a bird can evolve to the point where it lives on the ground?

I hope you'll continue to do some more of the blogging program activities in the next day or so. There are so many to choose from!

And I hope that you're enjoying our school break!

    Leslie
